ABOUT ME

I am at my happiest when I write. When longer pauses slip in, I become restless and start longing to lose myself once more in the world of my characters. I deeply value well-crafted language, inventive metaphors, carefully considered sentences — but also a strong story and believable characters.

I believe that every story determines how it should be told, and that characters are the true heart of any narrative. At the same time, I am convinced that fast-paced, adventurous stories can be crafted with both depth and precision of language. Adventure stories can carry deep and meaningful themes for young readers — themes of empathy and understanding, and a love for nature, history, and language.

Before becoming a writer, I was an entrepreneur and worked in two ministries as an adviser and senior specialist. At that time, I often felt it wasn’t final — that something else was waiting to enter my life. I submitted my first manuscript to the publishing house Tänapäev’s novel competition — and won. That victory gave me the courage to keep writing.

So far, I have published eleven books, most of them written for young readers aged 12–15 and children aged 5–11. In addition to the novel competition, I have also won a youth novel contest. My books have been nominated three times for the Tartu Children’s Literature Award, and once I have been honoured to receive it.

I have also written for the Estonian cultural newspaper Sirp about Estonian young adult literature and the challenges faced by Estonian authors writing for young readers.

On this website, you’ll find introductions to my books in both Estonian and English.
